Things to Do in Canada 160

Good morning!

Did you know? Jasper National Park’s Maligne Canyon Is the Deepest Accessible Canyon in the Canadian Rockies. With a depth of more than 50 metres, Maligne Canyon is a popular destination to visit both in the summer and winter seasons.

Speaking of Maligne Canyon, we love visiting the winter and going on an ice walk at the bottom of the canyon. In fact, we just got back from doing this during the Jasper in January Winter Festival, which takes place every year. This was also our first “video trip” with the twins (for those following us on YouTube), so we hope it also inspires those with children to get out and explore.

But without further ado, enjoy the 160th edition of the Weekly Goose!

  • Wanna buy a historic hotel in Quebec? Evergrande, the massive Chinese real estate company going bankrupt, has put the Château Montebello up for sale. The hotel holds the title of the largest log cabin in the world and is the main employer in the small town of Montebello.

  • Canada might be hockey country, but almost half of the country tuned into the Super Bowl last weekend.

  • Speaking of the Super Bowl, Newfoundland wasn’t happy about this VRBO ad.

  • We had no idea that so many people hated the Crystal entryway of the Royal Ontario Museum. We think it’s okay. Either way, the ROM is planning a new expansion, which will change the entryway and add 6,000 square feet of new gallery space.

  • Hey, honey, you wanna go to Alberta? The province might be famous for its cattle and oil but it’s now setting a Canadian record for producing almost $106 million worth of honey last year. While the money comes from the honey itself, there are also unique tourism opportunities. For example, we did a tour of a small honey bee farm in Lac La Biche last year.

  • As much as we love being able to chat online with a customer service rep, we certainly don’t like all the bots that come along with it. Well, it turns out those bots are costing Air Canada some lawsuits. After a legal battle, Air Canada must reimburse a British Columbian flyer after a provincial small claims tribunal ruled that the airline’s chatbot misled the customer about the cost of his flight to Toronto. The bot told the man, who was travelling to a funeral, that discounts for trips to funerals can be redeemed after the fact, which isn’t true.
