Things to Do in Canada 169

Good morning!

Did you know? Grasslands are one of the planet's most endangered ecosystems. It's estimated that over 80% of Canadian prairies have already been lost to other uses.

Thankfully, more grasslands will be preserved thanks to an agreement between the Thrall family, the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC), and Duck Unlimited Canada to preserve the entirety of McIntyre Ranch, a 130-year-old Alberta ranch that encompasses 22,000 hectares of native prairie and wetlands, which we’ll discuss below.

Speaking of Grasslands, however, the most spectacular place you can experience them is in Southern Saskatchewan’s Grasslands National Park. But don’t just take our word for it. Check out our travel guide and video in the 169th edition of the Weekly Goose.

  • Stanley Park is one of our favourite places to explore in Vancouver but we’ve never imagined living there. Turns out, Chris Bailey has made it his home for the last 34 years, living in a tent surprisingly undisturbed by authorities. But his time has come to an end…

  • Canada has always been known as a wildlife hotspot. Moose, polar bears, wolves, you name it. Nowadays, however, you might not need to join an adventure excursion to see them. More wildlife is turning up in Canadian cities, making it easier than ever to spot beavers, deer, and even bears. If they start moving into real estate though, rents could climb even further.

  • Toronto’s Pearson Airport, Canada’s biggest airport, is getting a makeover. As part of an effort to meet higher demand, the Greater Toronto Airports Authority announced plans for a multi-billion update.

  • Mountain guides can tell us a lot when it comes to global warming and this is what Canadian mountain guides are witnessing in the Rockies.

  • Booking summer vacations can be difficult but here are 20 tips from travel agents to make it a little more successful.

  • 🏒 The NHL playoffs kicked off this past weekend. For us hockey fans, this is an exciting time and four Canadian teams have the chance to bring the Stanley Cup back to Canada. Could it be the Winnipeg Jets, the Vancouver Canucks, the Edmonton Oilers, or the Toronto Maple Leafs? Only time will tell, but one thing is for certain, these games bring lots of money to their respective cities and can be good fun for those visiting.

  • Many balk at Airline food but it could be worse: there could be no food at all. That’s what might happen to some Air Canada and WestJet flights coming up as certain caterers go on strike. Pack some extra snacks just in case!
