Things to Do in Canada 183 (Muir Hotel, Halifax)

Good morning!

Did you know? The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, in Halifax, is Canada's oldest and largest Maritime museum.

Speaking of Halifax, we recently stayed at their first and only luxury hotel during our visit this past June. It’s a beautiful hotel with a design that pays homage to the region it calls home. But there’s far too much to explain here, so we wrote all about it, as you’ll see in our article below.

On another note, we had some issues with our newsletter last week. For some reason, it failed to send to more than 80% of our subscribers. If that was you, we apologize. It seems like we have found the issue and hope that it is corrected. However, we still recommend you get it every time by moving Must Do Canada emails to your preferred folders or adding [email protected] and [email protected] to your contact list.

Enjoy!

There’s only one luxury hotel in Halfiax but thankfully, it’s an amazing one. From being designed to represent its surroundings while also full of made-in-Canada artwork and decor, Muir is truly one of those hotels that actually adds to your experience.

Beaver Bites

  • Who doesn’t love our national parks? Well, they might be getting a little closer. The feds are promising to develop six national urban parks by the end of next year in hopes of strengthening Indigenous reconciliation and connecting Canadians to the outdoors.

  • You’ve probably heard about the great white sharks making their way to Nova Scotia lately, but now Canada’s East Coast is also getting its episode on Shark Week!

  • We love it when the sea gets more protection so we’re all grins after reading about the announcement of Canada’s largest marine protected area off the coast of B.C.

  • Have you heard about the Indigenous Group of Seven? One of them, Alex Janvier, considered one of Canada’s greatest painters, passed away at 89.

  • Want free meals, tours, and workshops in Copenhagen, Denmark? They’ve launched a new environmentally-friendly program to reward tourists who take green actions, such as picking up litter. Maybe we need this in Canada!

  • It turns out Canadians just aren’t willing to pay the high prices that airlines like Air Canada are charging, up close to 20% from the same time last year. Canada’s top airline has announced that it is substantially slashing its projected profits for this year due to tougher competition for international travel and an abundance of empty seats.

  • Zipping around the city on rented bikes and scooters is a fun way to get around, but it’s also getting super expensive. Many of the rentals you see in Canada are government-subsided, but as companies like Lyft get more popular, you might start seeing rates hit up to $18 for a 30-minute ride, which is what it costs in New York. Is it worth it at that point?
