Things to Do in Canada 193 (Canada's Favourite Oceanfront Resort)

Good morning!

Did you know? Nova Scotia is the second-smallest province in Canada but has a whopping 13,300 kilometres of coastline. No wonder they call it Canada’s Ocean Playground!

Speaking of ocean playgrounds, we spent a few nights at White Point Beach Resort earlier in the summer, which is known as Canada’s favourite oceanfront resort. It was our first time staying at a true oceanfront resort in Canada and we loved it. We spent time on the beach, played pickleball, enjoyed the beautiful sunsets, ate delicious food, and went paddle boarding. Learn more about this beautiful resort in the 193rd edition of the Weekly Goose!

Enjoy!

  • Toronto is about to become the epicentre of concerts in Canada. Leviathan Live Nation is constructing Canada’s largest purpose-built concert venue with a capacity of 50,000. Rogers Stadium will be built at the site of the long-decommissioned Downsview Airport but will only be active for five years before the site gets turned into a real estate development. They expect to host 12 to 15 concerts per year and will likely serve as a test for venues of this size in Canada. Oasis has already signed on as one of the upcoming acts.

  • Airlines seem to be getting hammered these days when it comes to complaints and penalties. Now the federal transport watchdog is proposing to charge a $790 fee for each customer complaint, regardless of the complaint’s merit.

  • Although Canada’s wine industry is relatively small compared to other countries, it’s still valued at approximately $1.6 billion. It’s also growing at a good pace but is quite vulnerable to extreme weather, something places like British Columbia have seen a lot lately. B.C. wine growers, for example, have already lost $346 million this year because of cold weather.

  • This is where Canada ranks in terms of having the highest quality of life.

  • Germans love Canada thanks to its vast natural landscapes and polite people but now Canada wants them to love poutine as well. According to Global News, Canada’s Agriculture Department is looking to boost the profile of Canadian food in Germany with poutine-catered events, a Canada-themed cookbook, and enlisting local chefs to create German recipes with Canadian ingredients.

  • We love a good racing simulator and Red Bell just spent US$136,448 on a racing simulator based on the Formula One team’s championship-winning ride in 2023, a car hailed as the most dominant in F1’s history. We’re hoping more copies are made and at least one of them lands somewhere in Canada for us to try out.

  • When you’re running amongst Newfoundland’s beautiful scenery, you shouldn’t be surprised when a 150-pound goat breaks out of its enclosure to join a pack of half-marathon runners.

  • Can’t decide how many pizzas you need at your next party? If you’re in Edmonton, why not just order the world's largest deliverable pizza? With 200 slices and a weight of about 20 kg, it should do the trick.
