Things to Do in Canada 197

Good morning!

Did you know? Some of the 54 Commonwealth member states, such as Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia, observe the tradition of Remembrance Day on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. Other nations observe a solemn day but on different dates. For example, ANZAC Day is observed in New Zealand on April 25th. In South Africa, Poppy Day is marked on the Sunday that falls closest to November 11.

If you’re keen on getting out and enjoying one of the many Remembrance Day events or war museums around the country, we’ve got some ideas for you in the 197th edition of the Weekly Goose!

Enjoy!

While taking a moment of silence is a special thing to do while you’re at home, there are also many events taking place where you can learn more about the day, the history of Canada’s role in the World War, or also pay your respect along with others in the city or town of your choice.

If you’re interested in joining a ceremony, the Legion offers a searchable database of all the ceremonies taking place across the country or you can also visit the Government of Canada Veterans website to see the larger commemorative events taking place across the country.

If you’re looking for some great museums, we highly recommend the Canadian Museum of History in Ottawa/Gatineau, the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa, the Military Museums in Calgary, this 1812 virtual exhibition, or many of the other museums from coast to coast that you see on this list. In addition, you can always make an adventure out of it and fly to France to see the Juno Beach Centre. How cool would that be?

  • It’s usually a wise decision to not get your health advice from athletes. For example, John Tavares of the Toronto Maple Leafs and RJ Barrett from the Toronto Raptors are claiming that their “magical amulet” is good at reducing radiation from WiFi and 5G networks. Reminds us of the movie Uncut Gems with Adam Sandler.

  • Hockey is getting much more popular with women. Not only is the NHL the fastest-growing sport for female audiences, but 108,313 women and girls registered for Hockey Canada programs last season too, marking the highest % in the organization’s history!
