Nanaimo Takeover

Good morning!

Did you know? Americans are taking over Canada, just not in the way you think they are. As per DT’s threats, a local Nanaimo man posted a video on TikTok inviting Canada-supporting Americans to visit him in late April. He expected 5-6 to say yes so that he and his wife could take them out for dinner and show them around. To his surprise, more than 2,000 signed up. Now he’s trying to work with local tourism companies and hotels to make it a success! Needless to say, it went viral. Now we’re curious, would you come to Calgary if we held an event like that? See the poll below!

  • The “Buy Canada” movement, which doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, also means more travel in Canada. At least that’s what airlines are hoping for. WestJet is increasing its flights within Canada by 10% this summer, launching 11 new routes and boosting the volume of its existing flights while Porter is also launching new routes from Hamilton to Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, and Halifax. The increase in volume could help lower the cost of airfare as well.

  • Four Seasons is winning awards in Canada. First, the Four Seasons Resort Whistler was named the best resort in Canada, and then the Four Seasons Hotel Toronto was named the best hotel in Canada. If you’ve got a bottomless wallet, these look like they’re worth the splurge.

  • Night tourism is a big deal, and for those looking to travel around the world, here are five surreal nighttime experiences. However, they missed all the Canadian experiences, such as viewing the Northern Lights in the North or watching the stars from one of the many Dark Sky Preserves.

  • For the most part, Canadians are quite united. However, business-wise, Canada certainly isn’t. Canadian officials have been complaining about interprovincial trade barriers since the 1940s, which has resulted in a tremendous amount of lost $$$. Almost 100 years later, Trump has possibly spurred officials to take action finally. If “we” can finally pull it off, it should result in a GDP bump of between 4.4% and 7.9% over the long term and a $245 billion increase in Canada’s economy. Not too shabby.

  • Speaking of the Canadian economy, many Canadians want to buy more locally now, but the wide range of labels makes this tricky. Here’s how to make sense of Canadian labels.

  • Canada Dry is one of the most famous Ginger Ale brands in the world, but have you noticed it tastes better while flying? Well, not just the Canada Dry brand. All ginger ale tastes better when opened at 30,000 feet, and this is why it tastes so good.

  • Cold plunges are popular these days, and many celebrities and health professionals promote them. However, there is almost no conclusive evidence of their benefits, aside from an initial endorphin rush and possibly better sleep 12 hours later.

  • If you’ve got money to burn, this company that specializes in electrifying classic cars is coming to Canada.
