Quebec’s Côte-Nord
Good morning!
Did you know? The maritime regions of Québec are home to some of the best whale-watching sites in the world. Between May and October, up to 13 species of cetaceans are found in the salty waters of the St. Lawrence, including blue whales, the largest animals on the planet, and impressive humpbacks, which swim up into the mouth of the Saguenay Fjord near Tadoussac to feed.
People often forget that Québec is connected to the ocean, but having been on multiple whale-watching trips from Tadoussac, we can confirm it’s a wonderful place to see the gentle giants.
In the 247th edition of the Weekly Goose, we want to introduce you to Quebec’s Côte-Nord region, which is home to one of the best road trips in the country.
Happy Travels!

Checked baggage just got pricier with WestJet, inching up from $35 to $40 for the prepaid checked baggage fee for passengers flying economy fare.
Speaking of WestJet, the airline is also starting to remove the ability to recline seats in economy class. While we all know everything is about profit, they do say it will preserve personal space, which does carry some merit when people recline a little too far. Premium seats will still have the option, adding further flair to the more expensive seats.
Oh, wait, it’s WestJet again, lol. WestJet and TELUS have teamed up and connected their loyalty programs, allowing customers to earn and redeem points between both programs. Link it up now and you’ll receive WestJet sea selection vouchers and TELUS roaming passes.
No one likes travel delays, but for Via Rail, they’re also costly. Thanks to an ongoing dispute with CN that has caused record-breaking delays along the Quebec City-Windsor corridor, Via Rail has had to pay out $31 million in travel vouchers, which works out to 7% of their total revenue.
Starbucks’ popularity has been on the decline lately, leading to the closure of hundreds of stores in Canada and the USA. But that just leaves new locations for other Canadian coffee shops, such as Calgary’s Good Earth.
Calgary’s Spruce Meadows is changing over its popular annual Christmas Light display and replacing it with the Enchanted Festival, featuring a walk-through Christmas lights display, fire pits, and the region’s only indoor Christmas lights maze.
Ottawa’s 113-year-old Château Laurier received its first Michelin key, the only hotel to do so in the nation’s capital. Similar to the Michelin stars for restaurants, this recognition is given for “outstanding stays”. As of now, 38 hotels in Canada have received the honour.

Alberta continues its cowboy stereotype as it’s now home to the world’s tallest cow.
Canada has many amazing travel destinations, but one thing we don’t have is a 3,800-year-old desert city. For that, you’ll have to go to Peru.
