Icefields Parkway
Good morning!
Did you know? National Geographic named the Icefields Parkway one of the best road trips on Earth and the "Drive of a Lifetime". The 232-kilometre (144-mile) route connects Banff National Park and Jasper National Park in the Canadian Rockies, offering stunning views of mountains, glaciers, and turquoise lakes.
While many people, both Canadian and international, have the Icefields Parkway on their bucket list, most aim for the summer months. We get it. The drive is safer, the lakes are shimmering turquoise in colour, there are lots of attractions to experience, such as the Athabasca Glacier Adventure, and it’s warm. But the winter is also a magical time to do the drive. While it’s much more isolated in the colder months (nothing open between Lake Louise and Jasper), the snow and ice make it jaw-droppingly beautiful, and you’ll almost have the highway all to yourself!
So, for the 251st edition of the Weekly Goose, we want to give you a taste of the Icefields Parkway during the winter.
Happy Travels!

Kelowna becomes the first and only city in Canada to be named a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy. The Okagnagan city joins other North American cities, including San Antonio, Texas, and the Mexican city of Mérida, in receiving this honour, which recognizes cities with a distinctive gastronomic identity, sustainable and inclusive food systems, and a vibrant culinary scene.
Speaking of British Columbia, this is why the province has become the home of heli-hiking.
If you’ve been to Ottawa recently, you’ve probably noticed the decade-long construction taking place on Parliament Hill. It’s annoying for the photo ops, but this video explains the work taking place.
Typically, you need to take a boat or cross a bridge to get to an island. But for this island in New Brunswick, you just walk across the ocean floor.
With souring relations down south, the Canadian tourism industry is happy to learn that Canada has been reinstated to the approved travel list for groups of Chinese tourists by Beijing.
Not long ago, we featured the city of Winnipeg in a video and in a travel guide. So, we were happy to learn that the city is also one of the most affordable in the country.

International Departures
Back in 2019, we visited Egypt for the first time, scuba diving with sharks in the Red Sea, admiring tombs in Luxor, and witnessing some incredible artifacts at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. However, the museum itself was surprisingly old and run-down.
Not anymore.
Egypt just pulled back the curtain on one of the most anticipated cultural openings on the planet: the brand-new Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo. This place isn’t just a museum—it’s a full-on time machine parked beside the Pyramids. We’re talking colossal statues, never-before-seen artifacts, and enough ancient gold to make your bank app jealous. It’s the largest archaeological museum in the world, and it finally gives Egypt’s 5,000+ years of history the jaw-dropping home it deserves.
For Canadians who’ve dreamed of standing face-to-face with pharaohs, mummies, and treasures that shaped human civilization, this is your moment. The entire space is designed to feel immersive, modern, and surprisingly easy to navigate—even if your last history lesson involved a cereal box. If you’re cooking up 2025 travel plans, Cairo just climbed the list in a big way.
