Things to Do in Canada 253

Niagara Falls

Good morning!

Did you know? The water rushing over Niagara Falls is so powerful it actually tilts Lake Erie by a few centimetres. Yup — the Falls act like a giant drain, pulling so much water north that the lake literally slants toward them. Nature’s version of someone yanking the tablecloth… but with 3,000 tons of water per second.

As crazy as that sounds, there are so many interesting facts about Niagara Falls. That’s part of the reason it has become a world-renowned waterfall and one of the most iconic attractions in North America.

But as incredible as the waterfalls are to see (it’s actually hard to look away), there are so many other cool things to see and do while you’re there. So, in the 253rd edition of the Weekly Goose, we’re sharing our latest video about the best things to do in Niagara Falls, our detailed guide to the famous destination, and a guide for visiting during the winter months.

Happy Travels!

Niagara Falls is one of those destinations that is magical every month of the year. We just got back from an early fall visit in October, and it was awesome. Fewer crowds, beautiful weather, some fall colours, and all the attractions still open for business. But even in the winter, when fewer attractions are open and snow blankets the ground, it’s a truly special time to witness one of the world’s most famous waterfalls and experience some unique activities. Learn more in the guides below…

Beaver Bites
  • Move over, Toronto. Calgary and Banff just landed 16 spots on OpenTable’s Canada’s top 100 restaurants list.

  • Speaking of tasty bites, how about mixing that with one of Canada’s most jaw-dropping destinations? This winter, Emerald Lake Lodge invites guests to an exceptional new dining experience rooted in its storied culinary heritage. The new Emerald Sky Dome is a glowing, clear-walled dining space where every detail, from the handcrafted table to the locally inspired cuisine, tells a story of connection, craftsmanship, and place.

  • Skiing with cash? Here are 17 Airbnb options for a swanky ski trip.

  • From Revelstoke Ski Resort to Sun Peaks and many others, British Columbia really cleaned up this year for having the best ski resorts in the world.

  • As amazing as Canada is, there’s just so much beauty in the world. That’s why we always love to get some destination ideas from round-up lists, such as Travel + Leisure’s 50 best places to visit in 2026. Banff is the only Canadian destination featured.

  • The City of North Vancouver is about to get a pretty “cool” attraction for those wanting easier access to the water. The $21-million harbour swimming deck on Burrard Inlet will feature a mix of areas for seating, lounging, and swimming, as well as sand, diving platforms, 50-metre swim lanes, and a shallow leisure pool. On land, the city will add washrooms, change rooms and outdoor showers.

  • It may not be the Titanic, but a group of scuba divers found a “once-in-a-lifetime” pristine shipwreck near the bottom of Lake Ontario. While this specific wreck may be a bit too deep for the average diver, there are plenty of shipwrecks to explore in Ontario.

International Departures

While Niagara Falls is world-famous, it’s not the only waterfall people dream of visiting. There are many spectacular waterfalls around the world, one of which is Iguazu Falls, located on the border between Brazil and Argentina, and known as the world’s largest waterfall by volume. If you’re curious about visiting, a friend of ours wrote an article about doing it on your own. However, there are some pretty cool tours like this one as well.

Just for Fun
  • With the Olympics just around the corner, I think every Canadian hockey fan is looking forward to watching Sidney Crosby chase gold once again.

  • If there’s one thing many of us miss about a place like Blockbuster, it’s the browsing of video store aisles and the random recommendations made by the cinephiles that worked there. While those days are gone, Letterboxd (which is mostly Canadian-owned) is trying to bring that feeling back virtually.
