Last-Minute Spring Break Ideas
Good morning!
Did you know? Vancouver gets spring earlier than most of Canada. While much of the country is still in winter, Vancouver often sees cherry blossoms blooming as early as late March, marking one of the first signs of spring in Canada.
Speaking of Vancouver cherry blossoms, it’s one of the many fun things to do during spring break in Canada. After all, Spring break is just around the corner, and while many Canadians head south, there’s actually a lot happening right here at home.
From late-season skiing in the Rockies to maple syrup festivals in Ontario and cherry blossoms on the West Coast, March and April can be a surprisingly great time to explore Canada.
If you’re still figuring out what to do with or without the kids — or just looking for an excuse to get away — here are 20 last-minute spring break ideas across the country.

The West Coast
1. See the Cherry Blossoms in Vancouver
Spring arrives early on the West Coast, and Vancouver’s cherry blossoms typically begin blooming in late March. In fact, the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival takes place from March 26th until April 28th! Walk or bike the seawall in Stanley Park and explore neighbourhood streets filled with pink blossoms.

2. Visit the Abbotsford Tulip Festival
Millions of colourful tulips bloom each spring in the Fraser Valley, creating one of Canada’s most photogenic spring experiences. In fact, this is now Canada’s largest tulip festival!
3. Explore Tofino’s Wild Coast
Spring is a fantastic time to visit Tofino. Beaches are quieter, stormy waves can be dramatic, and the surrounding rainforest trails are beautiful year-round.
4. Explore the Okanagan Wine Region
Home to more than 200 wineries, the Okanagan Valley is Canada’s premier wine destination. Spring visits mean quieter tasting rooms, beautiful lake views, and the chance to explore Kelowna, Penticton, and Naramata before the busy summer season.

The Rockies & Prairies
5. Go Spring Skiing in Alberta or BC
March often delivers some of the best skiing conditions of the season with longer days, sunshine, and still plenty of snow. Some destinations, such as Sunshine Village, Lake Louise, and Sun Peaks, are regarded as having some of the best spring skiing in the world. Our vote would go to Sunshine Village!
6. Drive the Icefields Parkway
Connecting Banff and Jasper National Parks, this famous mountain highway is one of the most scenic drives in the world. Just make sure you check avalanche conditions first.
7. Look for Wildlife in Jasper National Park
As winter begins to fade, wildlife becomes more active, making spring one of the best times to spot elk, deer, and other animals.
8. Explore Drumheller’s Badlands
Warmer temperatures make spring a great time to explore the dinosaur capital of the world before the summer crowds arrive.

Ontario
9. Visit a Maple Syrup Festival
Spring is maple season across Ontario. Visit a sugar bush to see how maple syrup is made and try classic treats like maple taffy on snow. Some favourites include Maple Weekend and the Almira Maple Syrup Festival.
10. Explore Prince Edward County
A favourite Ontario getaway known for wineries, beaches, and charming small towns. Wildflowers are just starting to bloom, adding to the beauty.
11. Sip Your Way Through Niagara-on-the-Lake
Ontario’s most famous wine region is a perfect spring getaway. Enjoy cozy tasting rooms, excellent restaurants, and charming historic streets — all without the busy summer crowds.
12. Visit Ottawa’s Museums
Spring break is a great time for families to explore Canada’s capital and its world-class museums.
Quebec
13. Experience a Quebec Sugar Shack
March is sugaring-off season in Quebec, when maple trees are tapped and sugar shacks open across the province. Visitors can enjoy maple feasts, fresh syrup tastings, and classic treats like maple taffy on snow. Some of the most charming cabanes à sucre can be found in the Laurentians and Eastern Townships.
14. Go Whale Watching in Tadoussac
Where the Saguenay Fjord meets the St. Lawrence River, Tadoussac is one of the best places in Canada to see whales. While spring isn’t peak season for most whales, April is one of the best times to spot belugas!
15. Ski or Relax in Mont-Tremblant
Late-season skiing and a charming pedestrian village make Mont-Tremblant a fun spring break destination.
Atlantic Canada
16. Stay at White Point Beach Resort
Located on Nova Scotia’s South Shore, White Point Beach Resort has been welcoming visitors since 1928. Cozy oceanfront cottages, roaring fireplaces, and long sandy beaches make it a perfect place for a relaxing spring break escape on the Atlantic coast.

17. Drive the Cabot Trail
Cape Breton’s famous scenic highway offers incredible coastal views and quiet roads before the summer rush.
18. Watch Icebergs Drift Past Newfoundland
Every spring, giant icebergs travel down the coast of Newfoundland in what’s known as Iceberg Alley. Depending on the year, these towering chunks of ancient ice can sometimes be spotted right from shore. While late April to June is often the optimal time, late March still offers great opportunities, fewer crowds and snow-covered beauty.
Northern Canada
19. Watch the Northern Lights in the Yukon or NWT
March is still prime aurora season in Canada’s North. If you’ve always wanted to see the Northern Lights, this could be the perfect time. It’s still quite dark, but not quite as cold. Also perfectly paired with a warm dip in a hot spring.
20. Book a Once-in-a-Lifetime Trip to Nunavut to see Narwhals
This is certainly the most expensive spring break idea, but if you have the funds, this a one heckuva bucket list trip. It’s been on our bucket list for years. Fly to Nunavut, and head out to the Flo Edge with Inuit guides to hopefully spot all sorts of wildlife, including the incredible Narwhals.

International Departures
🐢 See Wildlife Found Nowhere Else on Earth
Snorkel with sea lions, walk among giant tortoises, and see birds found nowhere else on Earth.
The Galápagos Islands, located off the coast of Ecuador, are famous for the wildlife found nowhere else on the planet. From giant tortoises and blue-footed boobies to marine iguanas and playful sea lions, it’s one of the most incredible places in the world for nature lovers.
We visited during the spring way back in 2014, and it is still one of the most breathtaking places we’ve ever been. We climbed around volcanoes, went scuba diving with hammerhead sharks, and got a pretty nice tan.
If you’re looking for somewhere unique, with no chances of snow, this place should be high on your bucket list.

Beaver Bites
Banff is about to become more expensive. Whether you’re visiting the Banff Gondola or the Banff Upper Hot Springs, Parks Canada is implementing a parking fee of $17.50 per day, which will be in effect from May to October.
Speaking of the Rocky Mountains, conservation groups are trying to stop the revival of this Alberta ski resort.
The Okanagan, on the other hand, is about to open a new gondola and restaurant in 2027, followed by a mountain coaster, zipline, net park and natural playground in 2028.
The World Cup is only months away from landing on Canadian soil, and you don’t have to pay the extremely expensive ticket prices to see a game. In Vancouver, fans can watch the FIFA World Cup games from the official fan zone.
We love movies, and we love experiencing unique things when we travel, and both of those come together in this list of the world’s 100 best cinemas. Two of them are in Canada.
