The Golden Triangle
Did you know? Golden is home to the Kicking Horse Pedestrian Bridge, Canada's longest freestanding timber-frame bridge. Built almost entirely by more than 100 local volunteers using traditional timber-frame techniques, it's become one of the town's most recognizable landmarks.
It's well worth a stop. Located in the heart of downtown Golden, the bridge sits beside great restaurants and connects to scenic walking trails that follow the Kicking Horse River.
But that's just one of the many highlights you'll discover along the Golden Triangle Road Trip.
Some road trips get you from A to B. Others make you want to pull over every few kilometres just to take in the view.
We recently spent a week exploring British Columbia's spectacular Golden Triangle, and it reminded us why this route deserves a place on every Canadian travel bucket list. From chasing waterfalls in Yoho National Park and crossing suspension bridges in Golden to relaxing in Radium Hot Springs, every stop offers something memorable.
This week, we're sharing our complete road trip guide, destination guides, and three videos to help you plan your own Golden Triangle adventure.
Enjoy!

International Departures
From Golden to Switzerland 🇨🇭
Did you know that Golden's mountaineering history has deep Swiss roots?
In 1899, the Canadian Pacific Railway recruited expert mountain guides from Interlaken, Switzerland to help visitors safely explore the Canadian Rockies. Over the next five decades, these legendary Swiss guides led hundreds of climbs, helped establish Canada's mountaineering culture, and remarkably completed more than 250 first ascents without a single fatality. Their families even lived in Edelweiss Village, a collection of six Swiss-style chalets built in Golden in 1912 that still stand today.
So this week, we're taking our "International Departure" to Interlaken, the breathtaking alpine town that inspired one of Golden's most fascinating stories. With turquoise lakes, dramatic mountain peaks, scenic railways, and adventure around every corner, it's easy to see why the CPR looked to Switzerland when building mountain tourism in Western Canada.

Air Canada Adds New Lower-Cost Premium Fares in both Premium Economy and Business Class, giving travellers a cheaper way to enjoy bigger seats and premium cabins. The trade-off? You'll give up some perks like seat selection, flexibility, and other benefits that come with standard premium fares. If comfort matters more than flexibility, these new fares could be worth a look.
Calgary's Food Scene Keeps Growing with 18 new restaurants expected to open over the coming months. From cozy cafés and bakeries to international cuisine and upscale dining, there's plenty for food lovers to look forward to.
Canada's Passport Remains One of the World's Strongest, ranking 7th most powerful in the world in the latest Henley Passport Index, offering visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 183 destinations. It also continues to outrank the U.S. passport, making it one of the best travel documents to carry.
The Gordie Howe International Bridge Is Finally Open. Finally! This bridge creates a new link between Windsor, Ontario, and Detroit, Michigan, easing border traffic, boosting tourism, and strengthening trade—though its opening was overshadowed by renewed Canada–U.S. trade tensions that led to the cancellation of a planned joint celebration with American officials.
