Weekly Goose 142

Good morning!

Did you know? With an average year-round temperature of -3.6C, Canada is the second coldest nation in the world, just behind Russia. It’s so cold that more of us — about 108 — die from exposure to extreme cold than from any other natural event.

However, despite the cold temperatures, winter is one of the best times to explore Canada. From massive festivals to winter sports and beautiful landscapes, we love it when Canada is covered in a blanket of white snow.

So, in the 142nd edition of the Weekly Goose, we hope to inspire you to explore Canada in the winter months with many travel guides and videos to help you plan your next winter bucket list.

Happy Travels!

  • Some people just really love music. At least that must be the case for the estate of H. Thomas and Mary Beck, who recently gave almost $15,000,000 to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Does anyone want to leave Must Do Canada a fortune?

  • A Northern Ontario couple was out hunting partridge in the bush on Friday the 13th when they came across a rare sight: a 'spirit moose' and its calf.

  • Last week, the AIR MILES Reward Program launched its updated travel platform, making earning and redeeming Miles easier and more beneficial than ever before for collectors. Their new booking hub is a one-stop shop for flights, hotels, car rentals, unforgettable experiences, and more. Honestly, we’re just surprised it still exists.

  • ‘Crabs everywhere’: Off Canada’s Pacific coast, Indigenous Haida fight a host of invasive species.

  • With winter around the corner, we could all use a good laugh, so here are the best shots from this year’s Comedy Wildlife Photo Awards.
